Balance Smart is a selective weed killer intended to exterminate therophyte weeds by pre-emergence treatment in corn. The active ingredient, Isoxaflutole, has a unique mechanism of operation which inhibits the formation of carotenoids in plants. In addition, the preparation contains the selectivity increasing agent Cyprosulfamide, which increases the rate of Isoxaflutole's metabolism in corn, thus contributing to the safety of this preparation in this crop. Balance Smart's selectivity for cultivated plants is based on both their capability to metabolize the preparation and the layer placement of the weed-killer in the soil, thus it is important to strictly adhere to the instructions for application and activation of the preparation.Balance Smart is taken in by the roots of susceptible weeds and seedlings. Activation of the preparation in the ground is done by rain or by irrigation. Susceptible weeds are bleached and are eradicated close after the preparation's application and activation by water. Balance Smart also damages the seedlings of weeds that are susceptible to the preparation post-emergence.
Weed
Key Indicators
- Weeds with high susceptibility:
- Amaranth (Species: blitoides, viridis, retroflexus, albus, cruentus), garden purslane, dyer's croton, tribulus, jute mallow, Abutilon theophrasti, black nightshade, fierce thornapple, common beet, milk thistle, common mallow, Heliotropium europaeum, rough cocklebur, nettle-leaved Goosefoot, Polygonum equisetiforme
- Weeds with medium susceptibility:
- Field bindweed, Aleppo Millet Grass
Mode of Action
- Isoxaflutole acts via inhibition of the 4-hydroxy-phenyl-pyruvate-deoxygenase (HPPD) enzyme in plants. Cyprosulfamide is designed to increase the metabolism of herbicides, specifically in corn plants. Cyprosulfamide is taken up by a corn plant’s roots and leaves. Once in the plant, it induces and enhances the synthesis of enzymes that convert herbicides into non-phytotoxic metabolites.
